Preface To My Novel

The sun shined brightly into the rooms of the Happy Day Elderly Care Home as Lee  sat in his wheel chair staring out the window.  An aimless look on his face, not unlike so many others in this place, gave the appearance of wisdom.  No one really believed that there was any wisdom left there, just empty memories long since lost in the corners of his mind.

He mumbled something to no one in particular about trees and the sun.  No one paid attention anymore since they barely understood what he said and no one really cared anyway.

I remember or at least I think I remember when there were trees.  It’s been so long ago.  They were beautiful things, although now it doesn’t seem that way.  They block the sun that provides me with heat.  I used to feel the heat that warmed my skin on a sunny day.  I don’t feel much anymore, but that doesn’t matter now.  It’s over now, life I mean.  Things used to be much better, I think, although it’s hard to tell now.

This is really the end of a story that was hard to tell.  Hard to tell primarily because I don’t remember too well now, but I used to, and the rest of this story is what I remembered then.

Time for the medicine again, the nurse is here.  She only comes when it’s time for the medicine.  Time to sleep..... again......
